Judge Jill Rangos was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County by Governor Ed Rendell. Judge Rangos, a well-respected litigation attorney prior to her appointment to the bench, currently serves in the Juvenile Section of the Family Division of the Court of Common Pleas of Allegheny County. She has the right combination of experience—courtroom, law firm, and community service—to be a fair, effective and dedicated member of the bench.

A member of the Bar since 1984, Judge Rangos has a broad background in civil and criminal law. Judge Rangos began her legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Maurice B. Cohill Jr. on the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. Prior to her own appointment to the bench, she was a litigator at two of Pittsburgh's most prominent firms. Most recently, she was an attorney at Babst, Calland, Clements & Zomnir. P.C., and previously, she was with Thorp, Reed & Armstrong. As an attorney, Judge Rangos' experience includes protecting the rights of individuals and businesses in civil cases. Her experience covers a broad range of topics, such as products liability, complex commercial litigation and the First Amendment.

Judge Rangos has balanced a successful legal career with an ongoing commitment to community and volunteerism. Judge Rangos has maintained a steadfast interest and focus on family and juvenile court issues within her volunteer work. She donated her time and expertise as a member of the Board of Fellows of the National Center for Juvenile Justice for nine years, and for six years as a member of the Board of Trustees for Pressley Ridge Schools.

She currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of The Pittsburgh Children's Museum, where she has been on the executive committee for over six years. She has also volunteered with other civic organizations, including the Easter Seals Society, The Whale's Tale, and the Leukemia Society of Western Pennsylvania. In addition, Judge Rangos serves as a member of the Board of Trustees of the John G. Rangos Sr. Family Foundation and formerly acted as executive director for that charitable organization.

Judge Rangos is a member of the Allegheny County Bar Association, Pennsylvania Bar Association, American Bar Association, and the Federal Bar Association. She currently serves as Co-President of the Women's Bar Association.

Judge Rangos is a lifelong resident of Allegheny County. She lives in Indiana Township with her husband, John, and their three children.

She received her B.A. in English and Political Science from Dickinson College in 1981. In 1984, she earned her Juris Doctorate from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, where she was a member of the Law Review.
